Dr Nishant Gupta is a highly qualified and experienced cataract and refractive laser surgeon based in Melbourne. Dr Gupta has special clinical and academic interest in the treatment of diseases affecting the front of the eye (like cataracts, keratoconus and pterygium). He also specialises in corneal surgery and laser eye (refractive) surgery.
Inspired to become an ophthalmologist by the wisdom and teaching of a particularly charismatic medical school Professor, Dr Gupta is still motivated every day by the joy and privilege of giving life-changing surgery to those with poor eyesight and sight threatening conditions.
Dr Gupta uses the latest most effective surgical techniques and state-of-the-art technology for safe and accurate corneal, cataract and refractive eye treatments.
Dr Gupta combines private practice in Frankston and Cheltenham with public practice at The Royal Victorian Eye & Ear Hospital in East Melbourne and Monash Health. To all his patients he prioritises kindness and accessibility, offering personal care and attention that is second to none.
Education and Experience
Dr Gupta completed his ophthalmology training in India where he had extensive experience managing complex corneal cases and cataract surgeries. He completed two advanced surgical trainings (Fellowships) in corneal transplantation and other anterior segment surgeries at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, Melbourne, and the Royal Perth Hospital. Dr Gupta has Post Graduate Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery from Ulster University, U.K which has helped him further improve outcomes for his Cataract and Refractive Surgery patients.
As technology continues to evolve, Dr Gupta keeps abreast of advancements. He performs PRK and LASIK laser eye surgery, as well as refractive lens exchange in which he has extensive experience implanting multifocal and toric lenses. He is committed to helping patients with sight threatening conditions such as keratoconus using next generation treatments that bring improved shape and vision compared to conventional treatments.
Dr Gupta has contributed to many publications in the International Scientific Journal and has presented at both national and international conferences.
Personal life
Outside of Ophthalmology, Dr Gupta is a family man. Wherever he can, he combines overseas ophthalmologist conferences with family travel. Closer to home, Dr Gupta loves a good coffee and is always looking for new Melbourne breakfast spots to take his family.
