Dr Raghuvir Kini is a highly trained and experienced Ophthalmologist. In addition to managing all General Ophthalmic conditions and adult cataracts, Dr Kini has sub-specialist interests in Paediatric Ophthalmology, Strabismus and Neuro Ophthalmology. He is fellowship trained in all these sub-specialties.
Education and Experience
Dr Kini completed his basic medical and ophthalmology training in India, before moving to the UK after being awarded the prestigious ICO fellowship in Neuro ophthalmology at Leicester Royal Infirmary. Upon his return to India, he had a busy paediatric and neuro ophthalmology private practice in Bangalore, in addition to having public appointments in these sub-specialties. After working as a consultant ophthalmologist for 3 years in India, Dr Kini moved to Melbourne to complete a fellowship in complex Strabismus at the Royal Victorian Eye and Ear Hospital, followed by a fellowship in Paediatric Ophthalmology at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
Dr Kini has had extensive and varied experience in general ophthalmology and in his chosen sub-specialties spanning 12 years and 3 countries and he brings this wealth of experience to his practice.
He loves working with children and is particularly good at making children comfortable with ocular examination techniques using modern technology and gadgets, making an eye exam a pleasant experience. He is equally proficient at the surgical management of congenital cataracts, nasolacrimal duct obstruction, strabismus, and laser procedures for Retinopathy of Prematurity.
Dr Kini is well versed with adjustable strabismus surgery, thus offering patients a new level of precision in correcting their double vision and aligning their eyes to a cosmetically acceptable result. He is also adept at managing complex adult strabismus secondary to Thyroid eye disease and cranial nerve palsies.
In addition to sub-specialist work, Dr Kini is a high-volume adult cataract surgeon and is comfortable managing all general ophthalmic conditions, and ocular emergencies, having worked at the Emergency Department at RVEEH for 3 years.
Dr Kini has presented his work at various national and international meetings and has many peer-reviewed publications to his name. He has been involved with training young surgeons in laser, strabismus, and cataract surgery for the past 7 years.

In his spare time, Dr Kini loves reading, listening to music, and taking his family on long drives to beautiful places.
